Google has recently added an AI Mode tab in Search, where users can view AI-generated summaries (also known as AI Overviews).

For some, it’s a useful shortcut. But if you prefer sticking to traditional search results, I created a lightweight Chrome extension that hides the AI Mode tab in Google Search. It doesn’t remove or block AI Overviews themselves.

Hide AI Mode tab from search results

Install the Chrome extension that hides the AI Mode tab in Google SERP

The extension isn’t available in the Chrome Web Store, but you can easily download and install it manually from GitHub.

  1. Go to the Extension GitHub repository
  2. Click the Code button, then choose Download ZIP
  3. Unzip the downloaded file somewhere on your computer
  4. Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions
  5. Turn on Developer mode using the switch in the top right
  6. Click Load unpacked
  7. Select the unzipped folder.

That’s it. Go to google.com and search for something like “best laptops 2025”. You’ll notice the “AI Mode” tab in the search bar quietly disappears.
